Universiteit Utrecht (Utrecht, The Netherlands)

  • Master Conflict Studies & Human Rights

    • The MA in Conflict Studies and Human Rights explores violent conflict and its causes, conditions, and consequences. The focus of analysis is predominantly conflicts within states, and also examines the widespread violation of human rights, now a systematic instrument of war in many contemporary conflicts.
    • The MA in Conflict Studies and Human Rights at the Faculty of Arts offers a curriculum of multidisciplinary core courses that may be complemented with elective courses from other Utrecht University faculties and departments. This flexibility enables students to compose an academic profile suited to their specific interests and career goals.
    • The MA in Conflict Studies and Human Rights is a programme taught in English, and combines the study of theory with in-depth case studies. The programme’s core courses are designed to give students a solid understanding of the theoretical foundations of conflict studies and human rights, and to equip them with the basic skills necessary for doing research aimed at subsequently producing an MA thesis. The thematic focus of the programme will be both on the dynamics of conflicts and on the problems of national and international military or humanitarian interventions, such as those executed by the UN, NATO, and non-governmental organizations. The core courses include The Analysis of Contemporary Violent Conflict, Conflict Politics and Policies, and Political Economy of Human Rights.
