J.D. Degree with a Certificate in Dispute Resolution: A student, while completing the 86 credit hours required to earn a J.D. degree may take 11 of those hours from a select list of courses to earn a Certificate in Dispute Resolution. Requirements include: completing required (Dispute Resolution, and Negotiation or Mediation) and several elective courses (Dispute Resolution Seminar; Interviewing & Counseling; Labor Arbitration; General Litigation Clinic; Mediation; Mediation Clinic; Negotiation; and Trial Advocacy, as well as earning a minimum cumulative grade point average in the concentration courses.

   Requirements: (1) New Learning -- (proficiency) substantial development of new learning, or proficiency, in the field of study. Plans for proficiency development are detailed in the Learning Agreement, generally including a definition of each area, objectives, learning strategies and methods, proposals for documentation and evaluation and a preliminary bibliography to support the new learning. (2) Internship -- The internship must be at least the equivalent of three months full time work and must be in an activity that is new for the learner.
